Affiliate stores, answered

The questions people ask before they build one, answered the way we answer them on a call.

In short

Fix what is broken, publish what people actually search for, then earn links. In that order. Publishing more onto a site the crawler struggles with is the most common way to waste a year.

Common questions

Straight answers on what these actually earn and what they actually take, including the parts that only show up six months in.

How much does an affiliate store actually make?

It is arithmetic, not luck: visitors, how many click through, how many of those buy, the order value, and the commission rate.

Most physical product categories on Amazon pay in the low single digits, so volume decides everything. Software and business tools pay far more per sale. The calculator on the service page runs your own numbers and says plainly when the answer is that it is not worth doing yet.

Do I need my own products?

No, and that is the whole appeal. You are recommending other people's products and taking a cut when someone buys.

What you do need is an audience or search traffic. Without one of those there is nothing for the links to sit in front of, and no store design fixes that.

Amazon, or the software programs?

Amazon converts better than anything else, because people already have an account and a saved card. The rates are low.

Software and business tool programs pay twenty to thirty per cent, sometimes recurring for as long as the customer stays. The audience has to fit, but where it does, one sale can be worth a hundred Amazon orders. Most sites should run both.

Can I put affiliate links in a newsletter?

For Amazon, yes, with a condition: the links can go in email or SMS only to people who opted in to hear from you and who can easily opt out.

That rules out cold email and bought lists, and it means the list has to be run properly. Other networks set their own rules, so it gets checked per program rather than assumed.

When does the money actually arrive?

About sixty days after the end of the month it was earned. January earnings pay out in late March.

Gift certificate payouts have a ten dollar floor and balances below a threshold roll forward. Plan on a two month lag and do not treat the dashboard figure as cash.

What happens when a product goes out of stock?

The link keeps working and sends the reader to a dead end, which earns nothing and costs trust.

This is the single most common way a store that once worked stops working. It needs a monthly pass over stock, price and broken links, which is exactly the routine that gets documented and handed over.

Do affiliate links hurt SEO?

Not when they are tagged. Google asks that paid placements carry rel sponsored, and an affiliate link is a paid placement. Tagged properly it is a non event.

What does get hurt is a site of thin pages built only to carry links. Google demotes those on purpose, and since April 2026 Amazon closes accounts over them too.

Can an established business do this without looking cheap?

Yes, if what gets recommended is what you would have recommended anyway.

A firm that already tells clients which tools to use is leaving money on the table by not linking them. It reads badly only when the recommendations are chosen by commission rate rather than by what is actually good, and readers notice that faster than anyone expects.

What does it need every month once it is built?

A pass over stock and prices, a broken link check, and one look at what actually earned so the next piece of writing goes where the money is.

An hour or two, done properly, or nothing and it decays. There is no version of this that runs itself, and anyone saying otherwise is selling something.

What if my traffic is not American?

Amazon runs a separate program in each country, and a US link earns nothing on a visitor who buys through their own country's store unless the traffic is routed.

We work with US companies and US traffic. If a meaningful share of your readers are elsewhere, that gets sorted at setup rather than discovered in the first payout.

Want to know whether it would earn on your traffic?

Run your own numbers on the calculator, or send them over and get a read on whether the account would survive its first six months.
